Editorial policy
This page describes the standards every page on AlaskanCruises.us is written to. It is a commitment, and if you find a page that falls short of it, we want to know.
Independence, and how we are paid
This site earns commission from cruise lines when readers book through our specialists, and that fact is disclosed on every page that invites a call. What commission does not buy is coverage: no cruise line reviews our content before publication, has any input into our rankings, or can pay for placement or favourable treatment. Commission rates differ between lines and are invisible to the editorial desk when ratings are set. Where a writer has received anything of value from a company we cover, the page discloses it.
Authorship and review
Every page names its author, links to a profile setting out their relevant experience, and shows the date of publication and last update. Pages that make recommendations, cruise line assessments, ranked lists and best of guides, are additionally checked by a second named member of the team before publication.
How we rate and rank
Our cruise line assessments carry a rating out of five. The rating reflects performance in Alaska specifically, weighing itinerary access including Glacier Bay permits, suitability for the travellers the line serves, onboard experience in Alaska conditions, and value against the price band. A budget line that does its job superbly can outrank a luxury line that does not. Ratings are set by the desk collectively, not by a single writer, and are revisited each season.
Prices and factual claims
Cruise pricing moves constantly, so we publish planning ranges rather than point prices, label them as such, and recheck every band before each season. Seasonal facts, itineraries, schedules and operational details are verified against primary sources at the time of writing and rechecked on the cycle described in our fact checking policy. Wildlife is described in probabilities. We do not publish guarantees that nature cannot honour.
Updates
Every editorial page is reviewed at least once per year, and pages with seasonal or pricing content are reviewed before each Alaska season. The visible updated date on each page reflects the last substantive revision, not cosmetic changes.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly. Corrections that could have affected a reader's decision are noted on the page. To report an error, write to editors@alaskancruises.us with the page address and the issue. Correction reports are prioritised over all other correspondence.
What we will not do
- Publish sponsored content presented as editorial.
- Let affiliate considerations affect rankings, recommendations or coverage.
- Present imagery as documentary photography when it is not. The scenic imagery on this site is AI generated illustrative imagery: it depicts the kinds of places and subjects we write about, not specific documented locations, and we disclose that here and in the site footer. Factual claims are made in the text, never by the pictures.
- Publish guarantees about wildlife, weather or prices.
- Quote a price without saying when it was checked and what it excludes.
